How to Make a Survival Bracelet

In an emergency, you can use paracord for lashings, tourniquets, shoelaces, snares, tying splints, or, if you tease out the threads, even fishing lines and sewing threads.
This bracelet lets you carry a useful amount at all times.

Merit Badge Sign-up

Merit Badges for summer camp are starting to fill up online. For example Wilderness Survival is already full !
Get out your Red folder this weekend and decide what you want to take at Summer Camp.
Get BUSY!
New Scouts (1st year at Summer Camp) are participating in the PATH program so we just need to know if you are going to Camp.

Campership Form

If you did not pick up a Campership Form from the Troop Room on Wednesday -
mesage me here and Mr. Kula is willing to set a time to meet at the Troop Room over the weekend so you can get a form.

THESE ARE DUE TO THE COUNCIL BY MAY 1ST

2013 National Jamboree Needs You!

The Lake Huron Area Council is on the verge of losing one of the two Jamboree troops allocated if we do not have enough youth registrants by May 25, 2012. We currently have enough Scouts to fill one troop of 36 youth. If we do not have sufficient Scouts registered, we will forfeit the 2nd troop. This will not stop Scouts from attending, but may require them to attend with a troop from Flint, Lansing, or another area. The tentative cost to attend the Jamboree is $1400 which includes everything except uniforms and personal gear.

For more information on Jamboree 2013 click here
and be sure to talk to Jacob, Brian, or Duane who went in 2010.

Most asked ? about the Scout Health Form

Q. Can I use another medical exam, such as a school sports exam, and attach it to the Annual Health and Medical Record?

A. No. In an effort to maintain standards of preparedness and fitness for participation, and to make sure that the medical professional conducting the examination knows the various outdoor adventures than can occur in Scouting, the BSA requires completion of Part C. Part C also includes the height/weight chart for high adventure situations where emergency medical care is not readily available. If you do your part to help (by completing as much of the form as possible), your medical provider likely won’t mind completing both.

note:  If your Scout has had an exam in the last year (ie. School or Sports physical at the begining of the school year)  most Doctors will compete the Scout Form from that exam.  Just ask them.

Camperships

Campership forms are now available at the Council Office.  They MUST be returned by May 1st to be considered.
SM Kula is going to the office tomorrow and will pick up a number of the forms and will have them available to you at the Troop Room on Wednesday.

Why I'm not an Eagle Scout

This is an excellant blog post by Jason Wright.

I hope it inspires our young Scouts as well as our Scouters.

Early Rank Advancements DVD's

All our Scouts who are under the rank of First Class received a DVD, in their Red Summer Camp folder, with video clips of each requirement.
This is the most current copy of this disk that the Troop has.
Some requirements may not match up with your Scout Handbook.

Please comment here if you are having trouble with your DVD.

46 ways Eagle Scouts are Different

New study shows 46 ways Eagle Scouts are different

Eagle Scouts are a different breed. You know it; I know it.

And today, we’ve got independent, scientific proof to back up our claim.
At last, the results are in from the 2010 Baylor University study,
Eagle Scouts: Merit Beyond the Badge, conducted by the university’s Program for Pro-Social Behavior under a grant from the John Templeton Foundation.
